About the Firm

Tupper Law Firm PC is the next logical step in Steve Tupper’s more than 25 years of experience in business and law, including 10 years in commercial finance and IT, followed by 18 years of leadership-level practice at an AmLaw 200 law firm. That time includes not only law-firm practice but more than two FTE years embedded with the legal staff of Fortune 50 enterprises, working along with clients where they live.

If you listen to clients, and if you keep your eyes open, clients will tell you and show you what they want.

  • Solid national-level skills in substantive areas that affect the client.
  • Low overhead. And billable rates that reflect that low overhead.
  • Predictability of fees that allows in-house counsel to manage their budgets and avoid surprises.
  • Willingness to work with other professionals – whether legal, financial, or otherwise – to get the job done.
  • Empathic understanding acquired in the only way it’s really possible: Having done what the client does.
  • Brick and mortar when it’s needed. Nimble and connected worldwide availability when it’s not.

If you built something like that, would clients show up?

You’re here, aren’t you?

Let’s build something great.

About Steve

Steve Tupper is a commercial, technology, compliance, and aviation lawyer. He spent 10 years in corporate America, went to law school, practiced law for 18 years with a large law firm full of whip-smart colleagues, and came out the other end with a lot of great ideas about how law practice could be even better. The Tupper Law Firm is the embodiment of those ideas.

He holds a B.A. in economics and political science from Albion College, an MBA in Finance from Western Michigan University, and a J.D. from Wayne State University Law School.

Steve began in commercial banking in the late 1980s as a credit analyst and later became a workout and special-assets lender handling industrial, agricultural, and real-estate matters in west Michigan and southeast Michigan for Old Kent Bank (now Fifth Third) and First of America Bank (now PNC). In the mid-1990s, he became a contract administrator with EDS (later HP Enterprise) while attending Wayne State University’s law school down the street in the evenings.

He is consistently named to peer-reviewed lists like Best Lawyers in America (10+ years running) and Michigan SuperLawyers.

Be holds privacy and data protection certifications through the International Association pf Privacy Professionals, including:

  • Certified Information Privacy Professional - US Private Sector (CIPP/US)
  • Certified Information Privacy Professional - Europe (CIPP/E)
  • Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT)
  • Fellow of Information privacy (FIP)

After his family and the law, aviation is his passion. He is a pilot, instructor, air boss, Civil Air Patrol officer, and – above all – aviation fanboy. He has logged time in everything from gliders to the mighty F-16D (an orientation flight with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds).

He is a lifelong resident of Michigan and has lived and worked in southeast Michigan for more than 25 years. There are lots of great places and wonderful people in the world, but Steve has a special place in his heart for the grit and resilience of his beloved Detroit. He even originated the Tuskegee Airmen Detroit River Days airshow, an aerial love letter to The D, which happens over the Detroit River in June every year.
